The Correct Way to Clean Your Microfiber Sofa

Microfiber may be more resilient and easier to keep clean than other furniture fabrics, but that doesn't mean that it can't still be soiled or stained. To make matters worse, cleaning a microfiber sofa the wrong way can leave unsightly rings that will only make your furniture look worse. If you have a dirty or stained microfiber sofa, here is what you need to do to clean it.

Know What Kind of Microfiber You Have

Before you clean your microfiber sofa, you first need to know what you can do to clean it safely. Your sofa should have a tag somewhere on it that will tell you what kind of cleaner you need. If you see a "W" on this tag, you can use a water-based cleaner. If you see an "S," you will need a solvent-based product. An "S-W" will mean that you can use either a water-based or a solvent-based cleaner, and an "X" means that you should only vacuum the fabric instead of using a cleaner.

    How to Clean Your Sofa

Once you have the right cleaner, put it in a spray bottle and apply it to the soiled spots on your sofa. Wet it liberally, and blot it dry with a dry soft cloth. If you have a stain, apply more cleaner and gently rub it until it comes out.

    Fluffing the Fabric

Cleaning microfiber leaves it feeling stiff to the touch. To fix this, gently rub the stiff fibers with a soft scrub brush or the scrubby side of a clean kitchen sponge. This will fluff up the fabric and leave your sofa looking and feeling as good as new.
